The Kingdom of God Is Within You is Leo Tolstoy's magnum opus of philosophy and religious thought, cited by Mahatma Gandhi as one of the chief influences in the development of his philosophy of non-violence.
The central message of is that of Jesus Christ, laying aside the common dogmas of the church in favour of a literal understanding of Christ's teachings.
What is Christ Consciousness?
Sri Paramahansa Yogananda described the Christ Consciousness as the following:
"The love of God uplifts and enlarges us. I can never think of myself anymore as exclusively in this body; I feel that I am present in all bodies. I have no awareness of race or other distinctions at all. In my perceptions, just as I feel my own consciousness in every part of my physical form, I feel you all to be a part of me. Everything that is living I feel within this body. I know the sensations of all. It is not imagination; it is Self-realization. This consciousness is far beyond telepathy. It is awareness of the perceptions of every being. That is the meaning of Christ Consciousness."
"Jesus was once asked when the kingdom of God would come. 'The Kingdom of God', Jesus replied, 'is not something people will be able to see and point to'. Then came these striking words:
'Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! For, behold, the Kingdom of God is within you.' - Luke 17:21
Look into every great religious, spiritual, and wisdom tradition, and we find the same precept — that life’s ultimate truth, its ultimate treasure, lies within us.
This inner treasure of life has had many names.
Plato refers to it as the Good and the Beautiful, Aristotle as Being, Plotinus as the Infinite, St. Bernard of Clairvaux as the Word, Ralph Waldo Emerson as the Oversoul. In Taoism it is called the Tao, in Judaism Ein Sof.

Among others who declared the Kingdom of God is within, beginning in the 3rd century AD, include St. Gregory of Nyssa, St. Augustine, St. Gregory the Great, the influential German spiritual writer, Thomas Tauler, St. Teresa of Avila, all the way up to 1959, with the death of the great American spiritual writer, Thomas Merton.
Not surprisingly, the majority of historical figures who we know lived by this credo are almost all male.
Aside from St. Teresa of Avila (1515 - 1582) mentioned above, there was a female personage of note who lived in the late 1800's.
Practical Healing for the Mind and Body
In 1891, Jane W. Yarnall wrote “Practical Healing for the Mind and Body”, an exploration of self-discipline and the Christ Consciousness. The book is as relevant today as it was in 1891.
A forward thinker, Yarnall wrote: "It has been very wisely and truly said that 'Ignorance of truth is the cause of all misery'. This was the inspired utterance of Gautama Buddha, five hundred years before Jesus, who said, 'Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free'."
Yarnall believed deeply that it was through deepening our understanding and raising our consciousness through 21st Century thought that we can uplift our souls and resonate with the frequency of the Christ Consciousness itself.

"God is my health. God is my strength. God is my wisdom. There is but one Substance, One Power, One Intelligence, One Life, One Truth, One Love, which is the God of the Universe who is spirit; the all-good which fills all space. God is Omnipresent Good. I am a child of God, made in His image after His likeness. I am also Spirit. I live, move, and have my being in God. I am like my Father; I cannot be sick or suffer pain. No evil can come to me because all that is, is good. I deny the reality of evil. I deny the power of evil. I deny the reality of pain. I deny the reality of sickness. I deny the reality of sorrow. I deny the reality of weakness. I deny the reality of weariness. I deny the reality of poverty. I deny the reality of misfortune. I deny the reality of discouragement. I deny the reality of fear.
